Course Tips and Resources
Here is a list of resources that we hope you will find helpful as you plan and teach your course. We recommend using the Moodle learning management system as your centralized location where students can locate course resources, contact information, submit assignments, and engage in other course-related activities. Teams is the preferred platform for live video meeting interactions.
- Class list: You can view a list of participants directly in Moodle or download an Excel file see: https://moodlehelp.acadiau.ca/classlists.html
- Syllabus: It can be helpful to add the syllabus as a web page in Moodle as this ensures the students will always have access to the latest version of the document.
- Design: Edit topic titles and descriptions in Moodle to indicate section topics, dates and times for sessions. To add more topics or remove ones you are not using see: https://moodlehelp.acadiau.ca/topics.html
- Online Content: Add the resources in Moodle for each topic area including group-related resources and activities within the related topic area and be sure to include due dates for all assessments.
- Communications: Use the Moodle course forum to send important messages to all students in your class see: https://ltid.acadiau.ca/teachingwithmoodle.html
- Assessment: Support is available if you are doing online assessment see: https://ltid.acadiau.ca/apas.html
- Accessible Learning information is available at: https://www2.acadiau.ca/student-life/accessiblelearning.html
- Accommodations: Moodle lets you set overrides for students to meet accessibility accommodations.
- Make your course visible: By default, your course is not visible to the students in your class. For instructions on how you can make it visible see: https://moodlehelp.acadiau.ca/coursevisibility.html
- Microsoft Teams: If you are planning to use MS Team online meetings you will need to create the team, set up a recurring meeting and provide a link to your students see: https://ltid.acadiau.ca/teachingwithteams.html
- Microsoft Teams engagement: Provide clear directions on how students are to engage in Teams. Will they: raise a hand virtually, add comments to chat, unmute mic to talk, use polls and work collaboratively on documents.
- Recordings: If you will be using recordings in your class, be sure to review the Acadia video recording policy: https://hr.acadiau.ca/files/sites/hr/Policies and Procedures/Lecture Recording Policy.pdf
- Student Surveys: Talk with your academic department head regarding how your unit does student surveys. Here is some additional information about surveys https://acadiau.sharepoint.com/sites/projects/coursesurvey
- Online Exams: If your course has an online exams, you should fill out the Exam support request form. This will ensure you will get help setting up your exam and that technical support will be available when the exam is being written see: https://surveys.acadiau.ca/index.php/19.
- Grading at Acadia: Your final grade date deadlines, Acadia grading scale and how to enter grades can be found at: https://registrar.acadiau.ca/grades.html
- Final Grades: Final letter grades must be entered at: https://collss.acadiau.ca
